Hey. I know you've got a lot going on and I'm really sorry to be bothering you right now, but it's an emergency. Where are you?
hawkwardness: (hrm?)

[personal profile] hawkwardness 2020-03-29 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
You don't have worry about it yourself, I just need some of the kind of blood you drink. Is that alright?

[He didn't say no... so probably yes. Héctor. Again.]

Alright. Thanks. He'll be fine in twelve hours, I hope.

[Time to go get some blood...]

Sherlock

I've done some digging in our family tree and I've found something I think you'd like to know

Are you free currently?

Why wouldn't I? It's my family as well, and I did also track the Moriarty Family tree before.

[Nothing really of note, but.]

I'll be over shortly.

[And he is, coming in holding a folder with quite a few papers inside.]

I suppose I should start off with the simple things - most of the 'branches of the tree' are relatively uninteresting. We aren't related to any famous figures in history, or the like - though I suppose past a certain point, it might be a bit more plausible. Mycroft's descendants seem to be doing well, also.

There is, however, something that's quite...unusual. Especially considering it is from the 'line' we directly come from.

[He opens the folder, handing over a paper containing information about -]

It seems our Great-Grandmother used to be a Vernet.
hatesdeerstalkers: (Hmm...hmm)

[personal profile] hatesdeerstalkers 2020-07-07 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
So you're aware of them....Yes. The Mage family, the Vernets. Currently, they're an incredibly weak family, mostly clinging to their place in Mage society due to their history.

[And he'll pause here, mostly for drama.]

....Yet, there was something else I found about them - the reason for their decline.
hatesdeerstalkers: (fine.)

[personal profile] hatesdeerstalkers 2020-07-07 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
An Incident...? Ah, later.

[He's pretty sure sherlock would get annoyed if he started asking about that now, of all times.]

There is a certain...bloodline trait the Vernets have - in fact, the head of their family must always possess it, and they have not had a head of the family for almost 2 centuries.

[....Another pause, because he's a shitlord like that.]
hatesdeerstalkers: (somber...)

[personal profile] hatesdeerstalkers 2020-07-07 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
Indeed. But, not only that.

[He hands over another piece of paper - this one recounting testimonials of the Vernet family heads.]

Every Head of the Vernet family was a Twin, yes...but, that was not the only difference.

Every single one of them...Had twice the magical capacity of a normal human. While the other twin is often not talked of - it appears that they were either adopted out or ...disposed of, all of the twins I would track down shared another trait peculiar to the line.

....Sherlock. You....cannot use magic. Correct?
hatesdeerstalkers: (the rare sad moriarty)

[personal profile] hatesdeerstalkers 2020-07-07 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
[He pauses, because -

When he'd found this, he'd practically had to go and stew for a while on it. On how cosmically unfair all of this was. How, just because of chance and genetics, he'd literally been a criminal from his very conception.

No wonder it came so easily to him, in the end.

Still, Sherlock has the right to know - and he places a hand on his own chest, directly on top of his still heart.]

...That is because I have your magic. The secret of the Vernet bloodline....is something akin to in-utero parasitism.

[He takes in a breath, before resolutely speaking.]

One twin will steal the other's magic during development, and be born with twice the magical capacity. This often leads to the other twin being born stillborn or fatally deformed, and if they do manage to avoid that...then they have no magical capacity. In short...they are a normal human being.

...And there is only ever one set of the Vernet twins alive at one time.

...Considering what it is, can you truly blame me for thinking such a thing? It seems my propensity for crime started from the womb.

[It's...a joke, but a very, very self-depricating joke.]

And..yes, that appears to be the case. Because we still exist, the Vernet family has been getting ever more desperate.

...Perhaps they were already showing the signs in your encounter back in 1920?

[There's a pause, as if he's trying to decide if he really wants to know what he's about to ask.]

...were you there to see them in person?

['....if so, what did they look like?']
hatesdeerstalkers: (fine.)

[personal profile] hatesdeerstalkers 2020-07-07 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
Or if anyone in the family is still trying to this day.

[It would be fruitless, anyway - as long as they existed.]

...Still, that isn't the whole reason as to why it took me so long to get this information.

I was...attempting to learn if it would be possible to transfer back the magic I stole from you.

W-Well, I mean....!

[He flusters, just a little.]

It isn't as if I need all of this magic, after all! And besides, you know more of the workings of the mage world than I do!
