[Ruler was exhausted, and not feeling up to searching for a good hiding spot, he almost puts the book on the nightstand, before drawing it back, musing. If 'Magic' is the rule of the place, he might as well see if fairy-tale logic will help. So he slips the book under his pillow, before just dropping onto bed fully clothed and quick to sleep]
